Dr. Geralyn Dexter, PhD, LMHC is a licensed mental health counselor, psychology professor, and published researcher with more than 15 years of experience helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use disorders.
She earned her PhD in Psychology from National University, her MS in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University, and her BS in Psychology from the University of Florida.
Dr. Dexter currently serves as a faculty lead and psychology instructor at Southern New Hampshire University and teaches psychology at Colorado Technical University. She is also a member of the Verywell Health Medical Expert Board.
Her expert insights on mental health and substance use have been featured in leading outlets including Mental Health America, SAGE Publications, Verywell Health, and GoodRx.
Her recent scholarship includes authoring the entry on Motivational Enhancement Therapy for the SAGE Encyclopedia of Anxiety and Mood Disorders (2024) and presenting at the American Association of Suicidology Annual Conference (2024) on clinicians’ emotional responses to working with clients who disclose suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
